AccorHotels unveils its First Mercure brand in Kuala Lumpur

Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade blends local charms with modernity

AccorHotels today announces the launch of its first Mercure property in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the heart of the major shopping district of Pudu, Kuala Lumpur and a short walk away to the city’s Golden Triangle.  Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade features 213 contemporary guest rooms, an all-day dining restaurant, Chorak, a Lobby Lounge, roof top pool bar and a fitness centre. For events, meetings and weddings, the hotel’s three meeting rooms offer floor to ceiling with natural lighting that can accommodate up to 60 guests.

Mercure Hotels are unique as they are the only international hotel brand that integrates unique elements of the area’s rich local charm and surrounding heritage. They also feature a modern contemporary design coupled with high service standards.

Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade showcases the colourful life of the city dwellers with modern art pieces that can be found around the hotel while the Peranakan cultural elements are depicted on parts of the décor at Chorak Restaurant from the floor tiles, display pieces at the restaurant to the food menu which includes Nyonya Curry Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng and Tom Yam. The Chinese cultural elements are also reflected on the hotel’s mandarin-collared uniforms.

Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade, a 4-star hotel owned by Shaw Plaza Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shaw Brothers (M) Sdn Bhd, which in turn is jointly owned by Sime Darby Property Berhad, PPB Group Berhad and The Shaw Organisation Pte Ltd, held its grand opening with a positive outlook in capturing the SME business community and holiday makers alike with its distinctive property.

The integrated project comprising the extended shopping podium and the hotel is built at the cost of RM122 million. The Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade is located on the ground floor and from the 8th floor to the 20th floor of the extended shopping podium.

According to Simmons, Mercure Kuala Lumpur Shaw Parade is stylishly designed in line with Accor Hotels’ strategy to attract the lifestyle travellers who prefer modern midscale hotels as opposed to the conventional type of hotels. “Lifestyle travellers are always on the look out for unconventional hotels that are hip and trendy so there is definitely a growing opportunity in Kuala Lumpur for midscale hotels such as ours,” added Simmons.
