   How often does one get to go on a gastronomic safari? This here is a safari for those who love to eat and chill. It is a gourmet adventure of the senses, an experience best explored personally. This experience is one of a kind in Kuala Lumpur,  Malaysia. And this here is my  “one of a kind” rendition of it.

We begin our adventurous journey,
In a dimly lit China den.
A place of classical beauty,
Of food, drinks, women, and men.

To a time that is lesser tame.
You know you’ll be having a blast,
When Opium is its name.

First a cocktail called Consort Yang,
An assortment of things on a tray.
Next was Cajun Prawn with Mango Salsa,
Oh! A delightful Emperor’s Fore Play.

A place without help you’ll be stuck.
Even with eyes you’re without sight,
Welcome to Dining In The Dark.
If you’ve not dined in total darkness,
You must give this place a try.
We enjoyed Four Sensual Pleasures,
and wine that had too soon ran dry.
Bring out the most of your senses,
As you taste Chilean Chardonnay.
Try to make little guesses,
Of the food in front of you lay.

* Food Served: Four Sensual Pleasures

1. Fried chicken and shrimp parcel on cucumber chutney.

2. Roasted eggplant, red pepper and onions with thyme smoked lamb.

3. Orange, pomegranate and lettuce salad with vinaigrette.

4. Smoked mackerel on a leek and mushroom stew

Back to the future and on the same street,
Right out of darkness things are a bit bleak.
Off to the Steakhouse we worked our feet,
The time has come for a delightful steak.

Beef Medallion so juicy and tender,
On garlic mashed, a sweet salty mixture.
Red wine sauce gives it more flavour.
Paired with red wine, a definite winner.

 

El Cerdo

 

 

Al Cerdo of which is Spanish for "The Pig." This restaurant is all about pork.

Who’s up for “nose to tail eating?”
At El Cerdo, it’s all about pork feasting.
El Cerdo is Spanish, meaning The Pig,
If you like pork, this place you’ll dig.

*Dig as in love (street slang).

 

Paprika, herbs, onions, and garlic,
Marinating tender pork shoulder steak.
After 48 hours sitting in a pot,
A tasty steak is what we’ve got.
Served with jalapeno and smoked paprika sauce,
An amazing dish deserving rounds of applause.
What makes this steak even more fine,
Is when it’s paired with lovely red wine.

*Wine: 2014 Balduzzi Merlot from Chile.

Having enjoyed so much delightful food,
We need something to help with digestion.
A little more space will be certainly good,
Off to the Black Forest, our next station.
“We’re here old chap” says the beautiful lady,
And out came cute little glass cups.
We’re all here only for a quickie,
A cool shot of sweet cherry Schnapps.

*Schnapps is pronounced Shnups (“u” pronounced as in up).

As the night grows younger we journey on,
To the Whiskey Bar let us be gone.
This place certainly is a wonder,
For a taste of sunshine held together by water.
With about 600 labels to choose from,
There is no need to travel far.
Conjuring up memories of high school prom,
With a glass of Chivas Regal Extra.
